Description
A monument to George Kinloch, Dundee's first Radical MP, had first been proposed in 1833 and various plans were proposed over the years. A statue was approved in 1868 and Steell commissioned in 1869. It was funded by public subscription. Refurbished by Powderhall Bronze Foundry 2010. In 2020 the statue came under scrutiny when it was learned that Kinloch had inherited his uncle's plantation in the Caribbean and thus became a slave owner, although he later became an anti-slavery campaigner.
