Description

On top of an old lamp post. There is a third animal in the group – possibly another bird? Information from John Gray, Dundee City Council: "All I remember about the Lawton Road work was that it was part of a play park environmental improvement project run by our engineers. I remember that I argued for the inclusion of public art into the site, but there was little to no money. However it was my suggestion to have a small work built on top of a pole because of the levels of the site (a little bowl-like) and it could centred within the tree line (less trees then), also it meant that an artwork at the top would be economical because it would be small. It was my suggestion to use a lamppost column for cost reasons. I remember my argument was not having much effect. What changed I think was the classic lamppost. I don't know where it came from, it certainly wasn't nearby. Most likely it was another site the engineer was working on and therefore was had for free. Apart from seeing a proposal drawing, I was not involved in the site or commission beyond that. It was the engineer in charge of the site who carried the project forward, quite possibly with a name or two of artists that may have recommended. But I can't remember who.”
