Description
Commissioned 1862 and funded by public subscription, the statue originally stood outside the pavilion in Baxter Park. Following vandalism and weather damage it was removed from the park and displayed inside the Albert Institute (now The McManus). In 1958 it was returned to the park, this time inside the pavilion, but further vandalism meant it returned to the museum in 1970. In 2007 it returned to the park once again, relocated inside the newly restored pavilion (now kept locked).
