Description
The sculptures were created between Melrose Court and Melrose Gardens as part of a new housing development to mark the site of a former school. Wilson wanted to express the loss of all the noise/energy/laughter of the school – this led to the idea of abandoned school bags and the school bell (time being rung). Frogs symbolised transformation but were also based on a story told by a relative of schoolboys bringing frogs in pockets and releasing them in class. The work was commissioned by Persimmons PLC as part of Dundee City Council's Percent for Public Art policy.
