Description
Medieval trading cobs with forecastles - possibly a connection with the stained glass window in the debating chamber showing the 1327 Robert I trading charter. These may commemorate Dundee’s fleet of trading ships established in the 11th century. See 222 for Viking longboats on the opposite side of the square. Although City Square opened in Nov 1933, the city architect’s plans are dated 1934. They show the position of the carvings but no specific designs. However photos of the opening show these carvings in place.
