Description
The city's war memorial was originally envisaged to be in the city centre, either outside the City Churches or on the site of the Town House, which was due to be demolished. A campaign by the Dundee Courier led to the top of the Law becoming a possible option (although that was earmarked for the new Mills Observatory). Robert Lorimer, who judged the design competition, agreed this was the best site. The modernist design was also very controversial, many preferring something more traditional.
